The Taco Bell on Trowbridge Road in East Lansing.

Fast food is almost never my first choice, but when it is, there is one place J and I can usually agree on.  This particular scenario came up Saturday morning.  I was working at Spartan Stadium for the MSU spring football game.  When it came time for lunch, J came to pick me up so I wouldn’t lose my parking spot.  I was worried about rain and only had about 45 minutes by the time she got there, so I figured sitting down was out of the question.  If the sky’s opened up, I wanted to get back in a hurry to get my gear covered and out of the elements.

The night before, we debated between pizza and tacos for a late night run and pizza won out.  Since we both had the taco craving, we headed for the border.

The closest Taco Bell that I could think of is on Trowbridge Road in East Lansing near the US 127 interchange.  We headed back that way and made the left turn into the somewhat small parking lot.  At first, I wondered if we could even turn there, but there looks to be a cutout in the median just for the purpose of going to Taco Bell.

The inside of the store is also pretty small and has a set up that I haven’t seen at any other Taco Bell.  When you walk in, the counter is right in front of you.  We headed to that counter to place the order.  I ordered five hard shell tacos and J got a soft shell taco and nachos.  The lady working said it’d be cheaper if I got the #8 meal and add two additional tacos, so I did.  The total was a little over $10 with another drink for J.

The thing I really like about Taco Bell is that they have Pepsi products.  J gave me the bigger cup so I could take it back to work with me even though she ordered the larger drink.  By the time we got our drinks, our food was ready.

Recently, I’ve been on a Mexican food kick where it’s all I’ve been craving.  We’ve eaten at a number of Mexican restaurants, but every now and then, I still want Taco Bell.  I’ve said in the past, if I had the choice, I’d probably pick a Taco John’s over a Taco Bell, but I don’t have that choice in Mid-Michigan and now Taco Bell is starting to become the fast food taco I crave.  I think it’s more about repetition than anything.  When I lived in Illinois,  I always chose Taco John’s because on Tuesday’s, I could get six tacos for $3.25.

The tacos are sort of dry, but there are a few sauces you could get to put on.  I didn’t want to try anything unusual since I was going back to work, so I just ate the tacos as is.

I like Taco Bell.  I’m not going to eat there every week, but like I said earlier, it is one of the few fast food places J and I can agree on, so it is the fast food we go to more than anything.
