Mid-Michigan Dining

The American Red Cross and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing are looking for talented artists.

Lansing, Mich.—The American Red Cross, Mid-Michigan chapter, with the support of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing is seeking an artist to design an image that will be used to help promote the 18^th annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser held on October 14, 2008.

Empty Bowls was originally brought to Lansing in 1990 by a group of local potters who wanted to help fight hunger in the community.  The potters believed that by creating and donating original ceramic bowls to a fundraising event fit the concept.  The purchaser of each bowl would be allowed to take home that bowl as a reminder that there are hungry people in the community, and the proceeds would benefit the local food pantry and community kitchen network.

Artist submissions will be accepted now through Friday, August 15.  All submissions will be scored based upon the quality of the entire application packet.  Only submissions that reflect the concept of Empty Bowls and feeding the hungry will be considered. 

The artist with the winning entry will receive a $200 stipend and will have the winning entry featured on a limited-edition 11” x 17” poster to help promote and support the event.  The winning artist will also have the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Empty Bowls event to a captive audience of 500+ attendees and supporters.  The artist will also be featured as a part of all media releases and media announcements.   

To apply, please submit:

• A concept drawing or image of the piece being proposed along with 3 additional images representative of your current body of work.  Please do not submit prints, photos, slides or actual work.  Only high quality JPEGs on CD will be reviewed. 
• Each image must be labeled with the artist’s LAST name, title (i.e. Smith, Composition #1)
• A list of work that is included on the CD, that includes title, medium, and dimensions
• An artist resume that includes education, training, exhibition and contact info
• An SASE if you would like your materials returned
