After my last trip to Starbucks, I’m sure you all know how I feel about the place. If you missed that review, I’m not a fan. I don’t like coffee anyway, so my opinion on the subject doesn’t really matter. J’s not the kind of person that can’t function without coffee, but she does enjoy the occasional after meal mocha. Since we ate dinner at Lou & Harry’s Grill & Bakery and there was a Biggby around the corner, she wanted to stop and get a drink.
You all know the Beaner’s/Biggby story better than I do, so I won’t even get into it. There are several East Lansing locations. This location is right on the Lansing/East Lansing line in a strip mall between Saginaw and Grand River. The Biggby faces Saginaw Street, but it’s accessible from both roads.
The store isn’t huge, but it is typical of the franchise. The thing I absolutely love about Biggby is how they adapt to their surroundings. They don’t tear buildings down and put up the same pretentious building on every street corner. I like that they use the available space and, in some cases, blend right into the fabric of the community. This store is in a strip mall, so it’s not anything super unique, but it’s still a Biggby.

It was lunch time and there were quite a few people taking advantage of the wi-fi both inside and on the outdoor patio as they were sipping their liquid lunch. I wasn’t in the market for anything, but J really wanted a Mint Chip Freeze. I gave Starbucks a lot of crap for their sizing terms. Biggby isn’t too much better, but at least they make a little more sense. J got a grande which is their third size. Seriously coffee folks…SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE. Not that hard. And if I had any advice to Biggby, don’t try to be Starbucks…seriously…try to be the opposite of everything I loathe about Starbucks. Until the sizing terms, I always thought Biggby was exactly that. It’s like calling french fries pomme frittes.
The Mint Chip Freeze is a blended, chilled drink that is topped with whipped cream and chocolate. J said it tasted like a milkshake with a kick. She really, really liked it. Mint is one of her favorite flavors and everyone likes ice cream. It was the first time she’s had this particular drink and I’m sure she’ll be back for more.

For Coffee, check out Gone Wired on Michigan Ave. just west of Frandor. Used to love Beaners except that their menu now seems like an echo of Starbucks (bleh). Across the street from Gone Wired is Magdalena’s Tea House where many of the Vegan Hippies hang out if that’s more your thing.

was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100% positive. Any tips or advice would be
