…but according to the Detroit News, they needed a loan of $400,000 to do so.
Celebrity chef Michael Symon’s restaurant Roast aims to open Oct. 15 in the renovated Westin Book Cadillac downtown, backed in part by a $400,000 loan that includes public money.
After some debate about the struggles of downtown upscale restaurants, the loan was approved Tuesday by the board of the Economic Development Corp., a branch of the quasi-public Detroit Economic Growth Corp. Some of the money comes from the city’s $40 million casino fund; the 10-year loan is backed by Citizens Bank and personally guaranteed by Book Cadillac developer John Ferchill. A breakdown of how much each party is backing was not available.
I would love to see a menu for this project. It’s supposed to be a meat-eaters paradise.
I love Michael Symon…and have been putting out “not too subtle” hints that this is where I want to spend my birthday…which just happens to be October 28th if anyone wants to take me!
My birthday is five days before that…maybe J will get the hint? 😉
Or maybe you 2 should go together and celebrate your October birthdays… in case we don’t get the hints….
LOL…It’s not so much that I DON’T get the hint, rather it’s just that I try my best to ignore them…If we DID go to Roast, that would also necessitate a night at the Westin Book Cadillac, me waking up at 5am the next day so you could have breakfast at the Russell Street Deli, hauling your big-ass cooler around Eastern Market while you load it up, and finally spending the afternoon watching you eat ribs and bbq at Bert’s Marketplace while listening to karaoke…
I think you have a great idea, J…
wow…I would not want to be around when she reads that 🙂
LOL…Amy is well-accustomed to my sarcasm…
Our 3rd through 6th dates actually took place in the Detroit-Eastern Market-Heidelberg Project area and is one of my favorite places to go for a day trip…The above scenario would actually make for a great weekend!
