McDonald's on Grand River Avenue in East Lansing.

I took the easy way out.  I was at Jenison Field House for MSU wrestling and I had an hour lunch/breakfast break at about ten AM.  I thought about going out for an actual breakfast, but really wasn’t in the mood.  We didn’t get back to Lansing until midnight the night before and I had to be at the Field House at seven AM.  I was tired.  I was cranky and I just wanted something quick.  I had always been intrigued by the McDonald’s on Grand River Avenue in East Lansing.  I had never seen a two story McD’s before. 

The only McDonald’s in East Lansing is on Grand River Avenue a few blocks from the campus of Michigan State University.  You can’t really tell from the road, but it’s kind of squeezed into a small space.  There’s not much of a parking lot and if there’s someone in the drive thru line behind you, you’re going to have a hard time getting out of a spot.

When I got inside, I realized why it was a two story McDonald’s.  The interior of the restaurant is just as packed in there as the outside.  Downstairs is the kitchen, order counter and just a couple booths.  Most of the restaurant seating is actually upstairs.  I was just going to grab a couple sandwiches to go so I never even made it to the second level.  Whenever I have ordered breakfast at McDonald’s in the past, I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit.  It’s been a long time since I’ve stopped in the morning and the menu had changed some.  Now they have bacon, egg, and cheese McGriddle’s, so that’s what I ordered. I just thought it was a fancier English muffin.  I was off by just a little.

I got two of the McGriddle’s for a little over five bucks.  Didn’t have to wait too long before I was back on my way.  I passed on hash browns and a drink.  I was really in the mood for a Pepsi, so I figured I’d go somewhere else. 

The bacon, egg, and cheese part of my sandwich was the same as I remembered.  The bacon was really thin and the egg was really thick.  The McGriddle part of the sandwich really surprised me when I took that first bite.  It was a miniature pancake that was infused with maple syrup.  Honestly, the idea sounds great, but I would have rather had a biscuit.  It was fine, but not what I was expecting at all.  I don’t think I’ll order it again.

Well, now my curiosity is cured.  I know why there is a two story McDonald’s in East Lansing.  It’s one of those questions that have been bothering me since we moved here, but there was so many other places I wanted to eat at in East Lansing I didn’t want to waste a meal at a fast food chain I’ve had a million times in the past.
