The McDonald's on South Cedar St. in Holt

Surprisingly, McDonald’s is one of my favorite fast food restaurants.  I don’t eat there often because I don’t eat fast food all that much, but I do really like their “burgers.”  Since moving to Lansing, I haven’t eaten at one even though there is one right down the road from our place.  J and I needed to make a run to Target this morning to get a diaper bag and some bottles…..for my brother who’s wife is expecting my first niece in about seven weeks.  While we were out, we decided to just run and grab lunch instead of coming home and trying to make something.

J wants to get back on the Weight Watchers diet and the only way it will work is if I get on it too.  I’m not super excited about it because it takes away all the foods I like and makes me eat larger portions of the foods I don’t.  But, she wants to do it and I want to help her, so I’ll do my best.

Since she wants to start this diet, my usual double quarter pounder with cheese value meal isn’t really an option.  For the first time since I was five and ordering happy meals, I ordered something other than the #4.  I didn’t really know what any of their salads were so I just ordered what J did.  We both got the Southwestern salad.  I got grilled chicken and she got crispy chicken.

We got the salads home and I just kind of looked at it like “what the hell am I eating?”  The salad greens come with a grilled chicken breast sitting on top with jack and cheddar cheese, chili lime tortilla strips, roasted corn, black beans, roasted tomato, poblano pepper, lime juice , cilantro and a lime.  There’s also a packet of Newman’s Own dressing.

I got to admit, the salad was much better than I thought it was going to be.  I don’t know exactly what the dressing was, but there was a little kick to it.  J said she didn’t like the grilled chicken which is why she doesn’t get it, but I actually thought it tasted pretty good.  It might have been a little soggy, but it is still a fast food chicken breast.  I surprisingly ate the whole thing and didn’t complain.  I shocked not only myself, but J as well.  I would still rather have my burger, but the salad was not as horrible as I thought it would be.  It pretty much filled me up.  I only used about half of my dressing, so even with the bottle of Pepsi, I only used 10 points of the 37 I’m allowed for the day.

Our meal was $10 and worth the money.  I know I keep saying this, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the salad was and how filling it was.  It should be enough to tide me over until dinner where I have quite a few points left so maybe I can actually have something I enjoy. 🙂

I’ve been on Weight Watchers’ maintenance for about a year (although it looks like I might have to switch back to weight loss if I don’t get my butt in gear), and that salad is my favorite thing to get on McDonald’s menu…unless I splurge on a cheeseburger happy meal w/ apple slices! I also think it might be a seasonal salad, because I remember it being off the menu last winter.

Sick and tired of bad service

I will tell you this, I would rather eat anyplace else then at MCD. Whether it is here or anywhere else, I have never received what I have paid for. They think the dunking sauce is for them and not the meals. The next thing is for a family of five it is about $35.00 for us to have a meal. I would much rather pay $10-$15 more and go to a sit down or even go to Qdoba’s for $32.00 and everyone is happy. I have only gone to MCD once in the past 6 months. It is nice, not have to worry about calling them up and telling them they messed up again. I have contacted their corporate office several times and have had no replies so I have stopped going. If everyone stopped going maybe they would stop treating us like sheep.
